This study investigates whether torque vectoring systems for variable drive torque distribution offer additional vehicle dynamics benefits compared with established chassis control systems. On the basis of derived vehicle dynamics objectives and following a systematic comparison of the available systems, a superposition differential for variable lateral torque distribution at the rear axle is selected. In order to achieve the vehicle dynamics objectives, a control algorithm is developed whose effectiveness is demonstrated in simulation and in vehicle testing. Building on this, a comparison with the established chassis control systems is carried out and an integration approach is designed for incorporating the torque vectoring system into the network of chassis control systems.
