Bioactive natural products were isolated and characterised from four different Chinese cereal and vegetable species. Countercurrent distribution chromatography methods in particular (‘High-Speed Countercurrent Chromatography’ and ‘Low Speed Countercurrent Chromatography’) were used for the fractionation and isolation of the substances. Various in vitro and in vivo test systems were furthermore employed to assess potential cytotoxic activities of fractions and pure substances as well as to determine antioxidant activities.
