This work investigates not only so-called hetero-phase fluctuations, which, as the name implies, involve a phase transformation between two different structural phases, but also homo-phase fluctuations, i.e. fluctuations within a single phase region. This implies that fluctuations in the stable disordered and ordered phase must each be analysed quantitatively. Clarifying the cause and nature of homo-phase fluctuations makes it possible to establish a causal connection between the coupled occurrence of order and concentration fluctuations in a hetero-phase fluctuation. In this form, an atomistic insight into fluctuations during phase transformations will thus be provided in real space for the first time.
