The results presented in this work address the transmission of forces in the boundary layers of compressible and incompressible turbulent flows at moving walls. They not only show how the transmission of forces from fluids to solids can be modelled across scales, and how the results can be used to derive dimensionless equations valid for arbitrary parameters, but also provide a basis for the development of a novel and pioneering grinding tool in the field of micro-grinding. The development of this “GrindBall” by means of computational fluid dynamics is described and its properties are discussed in detail. Grinding force, grinding power and pressure forces are generalised independently of scale, and it is shown that the applied method yields universally valid mathematical relations.
