The research project presented here, “Career Prospects of Working Mothers”, examines the life situation and the interests of professionally committed mothers in Germany and aims to contribute to improving the occupational conditions of mothers by raising awareness of their particular situation in German companies and identifying potential for improvement.

In the first part of the study, the researchers Ziegler/Graml/Weissenrieder review the state of research on this topic. In its empirical section, the second part of the study gives 1,801 affected women a direct voice for the first time. Among other things, they were asked about the greatest obstacles to their careers to date. The study focuses on the question of which particular difficulties working mothers have to contend with and which possible solutions they themselves propose. A central theme here is corporate culture in dealing with women and (expectant) mothers.

This book is very helpful in identifying the extent and nature of the action required in order to improve the situation of working mothers and of those who wish to return to work. In this context, women with their specific talents should be perceived as an asset to the company and should be meaningfully used and fostered as a valuable potential!
