This work deals with the synthesis and investigation of transition metal complexes. EPR spectroscopy and spectroelectrochemical methods were employed to elucidate electronic states in the partly labile complexes. The iron complex (PPh4)[(bpy)Fe(CN)3(NO)] was successfully synthesised and was investigated by various combined spectroscopic (EPR, UV/vis and IR) and (spectro)electrochemical methods. The complex [IrCl5(NO)]– was reacted with amines to give various nitrosamine complexes. By means of comprehensive combined measurements, it was shown how the nitrosamine complexes behave upon electrochemical as well as chemical oxidation. For the synthesis of new dinuclear Ni(II) complexes of the type [(N^N){NiMesBr}2], five new ligands were designed on the basis of 2,5-bis(1-phenyliminoethyl)pyrazine. It could be shown that such complexes can also be investigated in situ without isolation. Two new five-coordinate Ni(II) complexes of the type [(R3terpy)Ni(CF3)2] were synthesised and characterised. These complexes can be oxidised chemically or electrochemically such that a Ni(III) complex [(R3terpy)Ni(CF3)2]•+ is formed.
