This work is divided into two parts, the first of which deals with the synthesis and characterization of the first zinc silylene complexes. The reactions of {PhC(NtBu)2}ClSi (SiCl) with Zn(C5Me5)2 and ZnPh2, respectively, resulted in the compounds [{PhC(NtBu)2}(C5Me5)Si-Zn(η2-C5Me5)Cl] (1) and [{PhC(NtBu)2}PhSi-ZnPh(μ-Cl)]2 (2), in which an organic substituent of the zinc compound and the chlorine atom of the silylene were exchanged for one another. The newly formed N-heterocyclic silylene (NHSi) coordinates to the zinc atom of the resulting [RZnCl] unit. Using ZnEt2 as starting material, [{[PhC(NtBu)2]EtSi}2-ZnCl2] (3) was obtained, in which both organic groups of the zinc compound were exchanged for chlorine atoms from SiCl.
The second part of the work deals with the synthesis of bipyridyl-functionalized phosphane ligands as well as their complexes with coinage metals. The ligands bis-(6-(2,2’-bipyridyl)methylene)phenylphosphane (PN4) and (6-(2,2’-bipyridyl)methylene)diphenylphosphane (PN2) are accessible via ClSiMe3 elimination from 6-(trimethylenesilyl)-methyl-2,2’-bipyridine and the corresponding phenylphosphorus chlorides.
