Through molecular self-assembly, natural systems form complex superstructures from simple building blocks, which are assigned different functions depending on the class of biomolecule. These macromolecules include, among others, the proteins, which accomplish diverse tasks in ubiquitous processes of life. It is of interdisciplinary interest to understand and, moreover, to control the processes in which proteins are involved.
The central focus of this work was the investigation and development of peptidic structures and can be divided into two subareas. On the one hand, artificial systems were generated in order to mimic natural proteins and to obtain structures with novel properties. On the other hand, through the synthesis of peptidic labels, the requirements for the use of imaging techniques for the localisation of cellular proteins were met.
