Enzymes are not only among nature’s most important tools, they are also indispensable for many industrial sectors. To date, however, their industrial application has been largely restricted to aqueous systems, even though non-aqueous (water-immiscible) systems offer remarkable advantages and enable novel reaction pathways. A well-known and promising method for increasing enzyme stability is immobilisation on a support. The poly(2-oxazolines) used here are employed as amphiphilic polymer conetworks, microparticles and electrospun nanofibres for the direct immobilisation of lipases, proteases, laccase and a dehydrogenase. Comparing the enzyme activities with those of non-immobilised enzymes and support systems known from the literature in organic media demonstrates the potential of these systems.
